Sigma Gamma Tau, the National Aerospace Engineering Honor Society, had its 2009 initiation on April 10 in the Laufer Library. This year, thirteen new initiates were inducted into the society including James Spoolstra, Ben Ackerman, Ivan Wong, Mitchell Kaundart, Brendan Henning, Stephen Lue, Kevin Brashear, Alec Winetrobe, Mario DiDonna, Michael Coverley, Sina Golshany, John Wilson and Matthew Pieper. Professor Larry Redekopp was also inducted as an honorary member for his many years of outstanding service and contributions to the AME department and to the aerospace community.

The purpose of Sigma Gamma Tau for the last 50 years has been to recognize and honor those individuals in the fields of Aerospace Engineering who have, through scholarship, leadership and outstanding achievement, upheld a high standard of excellence in the engineering profession. The society seeks to foster a high standard of ethics and professional practice and create a spirit of loyalty and fellowship, particularly among students of Aerospace Engineering.
