FACULTY POSITIONS IN AEROSPACE & MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering will be hiring permanent faculty over the next few years. Persons from all areas of aerospace and mechanical engineering will be considered, including fluid mechanics, combustion, heat transfer, dynamics and controls, design and manufacturing, and solid mechanics and materials. All ranks will be considered. Applicants are especially encouraged from emerging areas such as nano- and micro-scale engineering, and biomechanics.

The AME Department at USC has 3 NAE members and one RAE member. The USC Viterbi School of Engineering at USC has established itself as a top-ten engineering school. An earned Ph.D. in engineering or a relevant science is required, with a preference in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Successful candidates must have a demonstrated potential for developing a strong externally funded research program and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Senior candidates must have a distinguished record of achievement as evidenced by leadership in their field of expertise, publications, professional recognition and extramural funding.

The graduate program of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering has been consistently ranked in the top 10 in the US News & World Report for the past several years. The School's 170 tenured and tenure track faculty includes 26 members of the National Academy of Engineering, seven winners of the Presidential Early Career Awards, 45 Early Career Awards, four winners of the Shannon Award, and a Co-winner of the 2002 Turing Award. USC faculty are conducting research in leading-edge technologies with about $160 million in research expenditures annually. The Viterbi school is home to the Information Sciences Institute (ISI), two active National Science Foundation-funded Engineering Research Centers (the Integrated Media Systems Center and the Biomimetic MicroElectronic Systems Center), the USC Stevens Institute for Technology Commercialization, and the Department of Homeland Security's first center of excellence (CREATE).

The positions will be available beginning Fall 2007. Review of applications will begin February 1, 2007, and continue until the positions are filled.
